THIS SECTION IS VERY IMPORTANT
Stellarport is a client that connects you to a decentralized exchange. This means that ANYONE (including scammers) can create an asset on the exchange (and it will be shown to you by Stellarport). You must do your own due diligence. Do not automatically trust assets you see on Stellarport. Follow the instructions below to protect yourself:
Before trading any asset on Stellarport (i.e. the stellar decentralized exchange) it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED you follow the two steps below. If you don't, the coin you are trading might end up being a scam coin.
- ONLY trade verified assets. There assets on the stellar decentralized exchange that are not verified, these can be scams. Avoid trading unverified assets unless you really know what you are doing. Below are images of verified and unverified assets respectively.
- Even when an asset is verified, you should check the issuer carefully. Every verified asset on Stellarport is issued by an organization. The issuing organization's domain name will be displayed right above the green verified (in the above image, the issuer is stellarport.io). You must manually confirm that issuer. Do you know and trust that domain name? Are you sure that there are no tricky typos in the domain name (i.e. a '0' instead of an 'o')? Click on the little blue arrow next to it to go to the website. Do you know this website? Is it a website you trust? Before purchasing any asset on Stellarport be sure that the answer to all these questions is, yes.
Check out the Stellarport exchange screen to see many more verified assets.
If you are somewhat technical and want to understand how verification works keep reading. Stellar asset verification is a critical step that asset issuers can and should take to let holders know that they are holding the true token and not a counterfeit version. The verification process works as follows:
- Add a home domain to the issuing account. On Stellarport these appear as internet valid URLs (e.g. mobius.network, smartlands.io etc.).
- Add a document at that web address that verifies that they have actually issued the asset.
